Community Development
Community Development is responsible for the administration infrastructure of Aboriginal Family Support Services (AFSS). There is a small team of paid and volunteer staff that provide reception, administration support to programs and the Chief Executive Officer.
Community Development works closely with the Aboriginal community to identify issues and trends that may be affecting the wellbeing of the community. AFSS is fortunate as the Chief Executive Officer, Sharron Williams, sits on a number of peak state and national committees that allows these issues to be placed on executive agendas for discussion. AFSS is an executive member of the Secretariat of the National Aboriginal and Islander Childcare Committee (SNAICC) which is the lead national peak body in Aboriginal Child Protection and Childcare.
The Community Development area is also for many, the first contact for callers or visitors to our Agency. An ever increasing role for this area is acting as a resource for many callers who require assistance. This area is also responsible for developing a Resource Centre for AFSS that may be used by AFSS staff, clients or other interested parties.
Community Development relies heavily on increasing community awareness of the issues that affect local communities and providing information on resources available to local communities. AFSS is currently developing clear and informative brochures, powerpoint presentations and presentation folders that will become an invaluable resource for many community members.
The Community Development Team is providing support to the Chief Executive Officer and the Board to develop AFSS Strategic Plan 2006 – 2011. Details of the Agency’s Strategic Plan can be found on the AFSS Webpage.
