Ceduna Office Alternative Care/Foster Care - works closely with the Aboriginal community to ensure culturally appropriate foster carers are available to care for Aboriginal children and young people when they are unable to live with their birth family. AFSS’s role is to source, recruit, assess, train and support members of the Aboriginal community to ensure a safe and culturally strong placement is available for Aboriginal children and young people entering the out-of-home care system. Port Augusta Region
Aboriginal Family Support Services has provided child and family support services to this region for over 20 years. In addition to Port Augusta, the Port Augusta office services the Yorke Peninsula, Port Pirie and Whyalla. Alternative Care/Foster Care - works closely with the Aboriginal community to ensure culturally appropriate foster carers are available to care for Aboriginal children and young people when they are unable to live with their birth family. AFSS’s role is to source, recruit, assess, train and support members of the Aboriginal community to ensure a safe and culturally strong placement is available for Aboriginal children and young people entering the out-of-home care system. Stronger Families, Safer Children - aims to help families care for their children and through this Program, contribute to reducing instances of child abuse and neglect within South Australia. The Program provides support for families to prevent their progression through the child protection system and/or the possible removal of their children as well as the reunification of children who have been separated from their care givers. Gambling Intervention Service - AFSS operates a Gambling Help service in Port Augusta, Coober Pedy, the Riverland, the Murray Lands and Adelaide. AFSS’s Gambling Help Service works with Aboriginal communities to raise awareness of problem gambling. The service also establishes links with gaming venues and other service providers for the referral of people seeking help and to provide counselling and support. Sisters With Voices Mentor Program – aims to deliver a mentoring program for older women in Coober Pedy and Oodnadatta to enable them to help younger women through life and enable them to make positive changes where required. The focus is on series of workshops on smarter parenting, and wellbeing programs to build the capacity in women to make informed decisions on issues affecting them and their families.
