Volunteer Program Introduction:
The AFSS community volunteer program is focusing on assisting the Agency in the area of service delivery. AFSS currently runs a number of programs where the human resource component is under pressure. AFSS believes the use of well trained and culturally sensitive volunteers will enable AFSS to expand and add value to current program delivery.
Volunteer Coordinator:
Our Volunteer Coordinator’s role is to develop a firm foundation based on the National Standards for Volunteering in Australia, and recruit community members to assist in service delivery and new program growth.
Objectives of the Volunteer Program:
- Develop Policies and Procedures
- Research volunteer requirements
- Develop job descriptions
- Research travel requirements and re-imbursements
- Develop introduction packs for new volunteers
- Continued compliance with the National Standards
- Liaise with Volunteering SA
- Support program delivery
- Implement state police checks
- Implement reviews of volunteer program input
Volunteer Induction and Orientation:
Prior to our Staff, Volunteers, Foster Carers and Students commencing with AFSS, they are required to under take a current State Police check, as we all work in a Child safe environment and are governed by the Child Protection Act 1996. Following this process we commence the Induction and Orientation which includes a full understanding of the Staff and Volunteer handbook, a tour of Head Office during which our CEO Sharron Williams is introduced along with all Staff, Coordinators and Managers. OH&S and Fire procedures are made very clear and scenarios of past and possible situations will be discussed. Following this AFSS goes through a selection process making sure skills and program requirements are suitably matched to the potential volunteer.
