Kinship & Foster Carers Lunch at Sunnybrae Farm

On Wednesday 16th September we gathered at Sunnybrae Estate for our AFSS Carers Day Lunch, forming part of the 2026 Carers Week celebrations. This was a special event dedicated to honouring the incredible Foster and Kinship Carers who support Aboriginal children and young people across South Australia.

Carers play a vital role in keeping children connected to family, community, culture and identity. Their commitment shows up in everyday moments – school runs, appointments, advocacy, celebrations, challenges, and the quiet acts of care that often go unseen. These moments change lives, and we are deeply grateful.

Carers continue to step forward despite increasing demand and complexity. They open their homes, provide stability, nurture belonging, and help children stay connected to culture. Their impact cannot be overstated.

Strong outcomes for children are only possible when carers, families, Elders, community, and services work together. Wednesday’s event was a chance to pause, share a meal, and celebrate the remarkable difference Carers make every single day.

Thank you to all our Carers – for your advocacy, your patience, your love, and your belief in the potential of every child.

A huge thank you to our AFSS staff whose dedication, support and hard work made this event possible.
