Aboriginal Gambling Help Service

What do we do?

The AFSS Aboriginal Gambling Help Service supports Aboriginal individuals, families, communities and service providers to better understand gambling-related harms, access culturally appropriate support, and build stronger, safer futures.

We work alongside Aboriginal people and their significant others where gambling has become, or is starting to become, a problem. Our approach recognises that education, early intervention and strong community connections are key to reducing harm.

Our service is built on 3 integrated pillars

1. Building Resilience

  • Educate individuals about gambling and how it impacts lives
  • Provide personal support strategies to reduce gambling harm
  • Advocate and refer clients to additional services
  • Increase awareness of available help and support

2. Promoting Connectedness

  • Support family and friends affected by someone’s gambling
  • Provide advice and information to encourage help-seeking
  • Build community understanding of gambling issues

3. Awareness & Education

  • Increase community and service provider understanding of gambling risks
  • Promote culturally appropriate information to hotels, clubs and community groups
