Privacy and confidentiality

AFSS respects your personal information and protects your privacy.

AFSS will only collect your personal information if it is necessary to assist us in giving you the best possible service. We try to collect the information directly from you, or your representative if you have one.

We will let you know

  • what kind of personal information we collect
  • why we collect the information
  • how we collect your information
  • if we have to collect the information by law
  • what happens if you choose not to give certain information

We use your information to

  • make decisions about the best possible service for you
  • provide personalised and culturally safe support for you
  • check that our programs are working well
  • report to our funders about our programs. When we do so, we do not use any information that could identify you.

Sharing your info

You can tell us with whom we can share your information. We will share your information only if you give us consent and allow us to do so.
Exceptions are if –

  • we have to report when children or young people are not safe
  • we must disclose the information to a court or by law
  • there is a serious threat to someone’s life, wellbeing or safety

Access to information

You can ask to see the information AFSS holds about you and/or to correct any information that is inaccurate, unless

  • it might put other people or their privacy at risk
  • there are legal restrictions
  • the request is not legitimate
