Dave Platt

About Dave
Dave has over 15 years of experience in residential care and child protection, dedicated to supporting young people through connection, culture, and adventure. His work is grounded in the belief that time on Country, cultural learning, and shared experiences can create meaningful and lasting change.
Dave has developed and led culturally guided programs incorporating kayaking, hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and camps that reconnect young people with culture, community, and Country. Culture sits at the centre of his practice, and he works closely with Elders and community leaders to ensure all programs are led with respect and cultural integrity.
Now Manager of Cultural Immersion at AFSS, Dave supports young people to connect with Country through experiences such as cultural arts, kayaking on Ngarrindjeri waters, hiking Adnyamathanha Country, and community celebrations alongside Elders. Guided by cultural leaders, Cultural Immersion creates opportunities for young people to walk proudly in their culture.
Dave’s mission is to support strong Aboriginal young people to grow up connected to their mob, culture, and community, while walking alongside Elders and staff as a committed ally.
